On Sunday, 25th August 2024, Laketown Synergy successfully hosted the “Midterm Diabetes Update 2024” at The Kenilworth Hotel, Kolkata. This event brought together top experts in diabetes care for a day dedicated to discussing the latest developments and challenges in managing diabetes. The day began with a warm welcome and refreshments at 10:00 am, creating an inviting atmosphere for the sessions that followed, each designed to address critical issues faced by healthcare professionals today.
The event kicked off with Dr. Anirban Neogi’s presentation on the unique challenges of respiratory infections in diabetic patients, chaired by Dr. Ajoy Kumar Biswas. This was followed by Dr. Nilanjan Sengupta, with Dr. Salil Pal as chairperson, who shared essential insights from the LANDMARC (Longitudinal Assessment of Diagnostic Management and Outcomes in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus) study, outlining the future of diabetes management in India. Dr. Prithwiraj Ghoshal, with Dr. Biswas as chairperson, then provided practical advice on managing urological issues in diabetic patients. The sessions continued with Dr. Debmalya Sanyal’s exploration of the interconnected challenges in the cardio-metabolic (cardiovascular and metabolic) health of Type 2 Diabetes patients, and Dr. Soumyabrata Roy Chaudhuri’s talk on the benefits of early oral semaglutide initiation in Type 2 Diabetes. The event concluded with an engaging panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Binayak Saha, where experts, including Prof. Satinath Mukhopadhyay and Dr. Anirban Majumder, discussed optimising Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) care using SGLT2 inhibitors (Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 inhibitors) and DPP4 inhibitors (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 inhibitors).
